- Genesis revealed the GV60 electric crossover's interior and exterior, ahead of expected start of U.S. sales in 2022.

Genesis has taken the wraps off the GV60 crossover, which will sit below the GV70 and GV80 in the brand's lineup. Unlike those two models, the GV60 will be electric, making use of the E-GMP platform that also underpins the Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Together with the rest of the lineup, the new crossover will position the Genesis brand for the upcoming era of electrification, while extending the marque's vision of luxury into slightly smaller segments.
This reveal is all about exterior and interior design, so Genesis isn't ready to share the specs of the this model just yet. Given its siblings' specs we can infer that it is likely to offer two battery sizes, serving up 58- and 77.8-kWh worth of juice, as well as a choice of single- or dual-motor layout, the latter with a 576-hp output. Given the fact that the GV60 will be positioned as a luxury model, it's likely we could see just the larger battery on the menu, along with all-wheel drive.
When it come to exterior design, the GV60 demonstrates the marque's latest corporate design language with a few popular features offered by EVs at the moment, including flush-fitting door handles.
"The front of the GV60 features a design optimized exclusively for the electric vehicle. The iconic and progressive Two-Line Quad Lamps add character to a refined and voluminous body," the automaker notes. "A wider and more athletic Crest Grille has been placed below the Quad Lamps to emphasize the dynamic performance of the GV60 and also to increase the cooling efficiency of the high-voltage batteries in the underbody."
The rear fascia of the car is perhaps more traditional than that of the EV6, whose profile the GV60 closely follows, trading the wraparound spoiler and taillights of the EV6 for a more conventional appearance with separate taillights, bisected by a now-familiar horizontal line. Also, just like the EV6, the GV60 is clearly not aimed at maximizing cargo space behind the rear passengers, featuring a very rakish backlight.
When it comes to the interior, the GV60 features a now-mandatory dual-screen display, along with some very prominent, floating side screens instead of old fashioned glass mirrors. The screens look like small tablet computers attached to the pillars, but you'll notice they don't really make exterior mirrors obsolete—the car still features thinner pylons housing cameras to make this whole system work.
Another futuristic piece of interior tech is the shift-by-wire Crystal Sphere, as Genesis calls it. It's definitely a sphere, and it's positioned on the center console, using changing colors to inform the driver when the GV60 is ready to drive.
"The Crystal Sphere is one of the most compelling design elements of the GV60," the automaker says. "When the vehicle is turned off, the Crystal Sphere becomes the vehicle's mood lights, adding to the aesthetic of the driving experience. When you're ready to drive, the sphere rotates and the SBW appears, creating an indoor atmosphere of futuristic mobility."
The production version of the GV60 is headed here in 2022, likely in the second half of the year, so we'll see the GV60 in the metal a couple more times between now and then, and actually receive details on its specs and pricing. But the Kia EV6 certainly offers a preview of sorts for this model.
